Every click, comment, photo, and share leaves a trace — a digital footprint that often lasts forever. 
In today’s connected world, kids are building online identities long before they understand the impact. As parents, it’s our job to help them realize that the internet never truly forgets.
A digital footprint can be positive — showcasing achievements, creativity, and kindness. Colleges and employers often check online profiles, and a thoughtful digital presence can actually open doors. But careless posts, angry comments, or private photos can cause long-term harm, even years later. 
So how do we guide them? Start early. Teach kids the “pause before you post” rule — if you wouldn’t say it or show it in person, don’t put it online. Remind them that screenshots are forever, and privacy settings don’t guarantee protection. Encourage empathy and responsibility in every interaction. 
Most importantly, model it yourself — children learn how to behave online by watching us. Let’s make digital citizenship part of everyday parenting, not just a one-time talk.
